William James Holliday

November 09, 1935 ~ July 15, 2020

William James Holliday, 84, of Vero Beach, Florida, died July 15, 2020 at VNA Hospice House after a long battle with cancer.

Bill was born November 9th, 1935 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to George and Dorothy (Bettison) Holliday.  He attended Ann Arbor Pioneer High School and continued his education at Eastern Michigan University.  He met his wife, Nancy, while she worked at University of Michigan microfilm with his brother, Bob, who introduced them.  They were married 6 months later on September 6th, 1957.  Together they had 2 children, William L Holliday and Lisa (Holliday) Marziale.  They lost their son to cancer on February 22nd, 1999.

William was a police officer on the Ann Arbor police department for five years until he started his career in the newspaper business.  His goal as a newspaper publisher was to turn around losing newspapers and this took the family from coast to coast.  Along with their children, Bill and Nancy moved to Hudson Ohio, Santee California and back to Hudson Ohio.  After the children left the home they continued moving and lived in Urbana Ohio, Circleville Ohio, Falls Church Virgina, Superior Wisconsin, Leesville Louisiana and Zachary Louisiana.  Upon retiring from the newspaper business, William started a new career as a golf course groundskeeper at  Fennwood Hills Country Club in Zachary Louisiana.  Bill and Nancy moved to Vero Beach, Florida in August 2013 to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.   Bill worked at the Vista Plantation Golf Club in Vero Beach until January of this year.  Wherever Bill lived he made numerous friends and was loved and cherished by so many people.

Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Nancy (Aller) Holliday, daughter Lisa (John) Marziale,  brother John (Diane) Holliday, brother-in-law Lawrence Ertl, grandchildren Christina Marziale, Samuel Marziale and William Holliday and great grandchildren Joseph Marziale and Sean Hammer.  Additionally, his nieces and nephew include Marie White, Julie Mull, Holly Milen, Susan McNeill and Robert White.  He is preceded in death by his son William Holliday, brother Robert Holliday, sister Gertrude White, sister-in-law Lunella Ertl, brother-in-law James Mull, and nephews Gary Mull, David Mull, Steven Holliday and David Holliday.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
