Shirley Sprague

November 03, 1938 ~ November 30, 2024

Shirley Sprague, a beloved wife, mother, and friend whose radiant spirit and warm heart touched everyone she met, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024 at the age of 86. Shirley’s life was a testament to love and joy, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Born on November 3, 1938 in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Shirley dedicated her life to creating a home filled with love and laughter. As a devoted homemaker, she nurtured her family with care, offering a steady foundation of support and encouragement. Shirley was the cherished wife of Peter Sprague, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage, and a loving mother to Gary, Nancy, Susan and Lori.

Shirley had a zest for life that was evident in her many passions. An accomplished cake decorator, she took pride in crafting stunning confections that brought joy to celebrations large and small. She relished the excitement of a trip to the casino, the thrill of shopping for the perfect find, and the joy of gliding across the roller-skating rink. Dancing and singing were among her greatest pleasures, and her voice often echoed the timeless melodies of her favorite musicals: Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story and The Sound of Music. Shirley also sang for many years in the choir at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wakefield.

Those who knew Shirley will remember her glowing smile and the sparkle in her eye whenever she sang. Her life was centered around family and friends and an appreciation for the simple things.

Shirley is survived by her son Gary Sprague (Kenji), daughters Nancy Sprague, Susan Sprague (Eamonn) and Lori Sprague (Kerri), grandchildren Seth, Kyle, and Daviona and sister Jeannette Costa. She is preceded in death by her husband Peter Sprague, brothers Roger Smith, Robert Smith and Billy Smith and mother Della Marie Champagne and father William Joseph Smith.

Though her absence leaves a profound void, Shirley’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
