Sandra Wright Johnson (Sandy), sadly passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 25th, 2022, in Vero Beach, Florida at the age of 82 surrounded by her loving family.
Sandy was born and raised in Opelika, Alabama and lived there with her family and two siblings until 5th grade. From there, the family then moved to Tuskegee, Alabama where she attended Tuskegee High School. After graduating from High School, Sandy attended Auburn University to study Elementary Education. Here she met her future husband, Charles B. Johnson (Bob), on a blind date, never thinking this would lead to the love of her life.
After their marriage in 1962, Sandy helped Bob establish his veterinary practice in Vero Beach. The couple was blessed with three children, Leslie, Bobby and Marjorie and made Vero their home for the next 60 years.
Sandy was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who was always there when you needed her. She was a well-loved member of the community and was considered a true “Southern Lady”. She was a member of the First Methodist church, a volunteer with Indian River Memorial Hospital, enjoyed playing tennis with her friends at West Side Tennis Club, and was a member of Indian River Garden Club (Rose Circle). She especially loved playing bridge with her longtime Vero friends all the while working alongside Bob at the veterinary clinic.
Sandy was preceded in death by her father Nathaniel Lancaster Wright, III, her mother Marjorie Evelyn Wright, brother Nathaniel Lancaster Wright IV, and sister Marjorie Wright Ward all of whom she adored.
She leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Dr. Charles B. Johnson, eldest daughter, Leslie J. London, husband Stuart, grandchildren Jeffrey, Matthew and Lauren of Vero Beach, son Robert N. Johnson, wife Michelle, grandchildren Andrew and Joshua of Vero Beach, and youngest daughter Dr. Marjorie J. Williams, husband Matthew and grandchildren Natalie and Jacob of Starkville, Mississippi.
Sandy left a mark on the hearts of all her family and friends and will be greatly missed. The legacy she left and the difference she made in our lives will always be with us. We are sad in our hearts, but comforted knowing Mom is in Heaven with her family.
Donations in her honor may be made to the First Methodist Church, 1750 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960. 772-562-1900.

Sandy, well, we didn’t make our lunch date at Sea Oaks, but we sure had wonderful times as friends, neighbors, rose circlers and bridge buddies. We go way back when you and Bob first arrived in your trailer and Roger pounded on your door one Sunday morning. It’s been a great 60 years knowing you, my friend. Love you, Patty

Miss Sandy was the comforting smiling face i first saw when I walked into the Indian River Animal Hospital over 16 years ago with my little man Levi (Pembroke Welsh Corgi) she was so excited saying oh our first Corgi. She, Doc and Doc Margie have cared for all my babies since that first day. Through love and loss they have been there. Excited with us on a new family member and passing tears in our losses of those family members. ALWAYS CARING and supporting all those whom entered her life and practice. Please know my heart is breaking for the loss of this wonderful lady….my family is from Birmingham AL….now who am I going to go back and forth with when the “Iron Bowl” is being played. “Let the War Eagle Soar!” I adore you Miss Sandy!

I just found out about Sandy passing. I have known Sandy and Doc for many years. They have been all of my fur babies’ doctor, caretaker and they even got one of my beagle puppies when Fergie had her puppies. Sandy would tell me stories about how that dog loved getting into everything and on the roof of their home. The memories I will always cherish, my heartfelt condolence to the whole family. She will be missed by so many.
