Patrick Loftus, 68 passed away October 29, 2020 in his home in Vero Beach after a long and valiant fight with cancer.
Pat was a devoted father and husband. He is survived by his wife Donna, son Kevin, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren Chris, Clarence, Charlotte and Carson Yates, brother Mike, sister-in-law Cindy, nieces and nephews Lynn, Mike, Ryan, Patrick and Katie Loftus and a tremendous family of cousins and friends who have remained close and loved throughout his life.
Pat grew up in Rhine Cliff, New York. He described his childhood as idyllic and still maintains friendships from high school and college. He enjoyed sports especially soccer and basketball. He moved to Sebastian immediately after graduating from State University of New York in Plattsburg, New York. Pat taught school and coached basketball for 5 years in Fellsmere and Sebastian. He earned his Master’s Degree in Business Management just before being introduced to the lumber business by long time friend Tom Crowe. After managing Diamond Lumber for several years he and business associate Ray Cunningham opened Gator Lumber in 1985. When Ray retired Pat and Will Craft partnered to grow the lumberyard and were successful until it sold in 2005.
When the new owners returned the keys Pat and son Kevin re-opened and were soon joined by previous partner Will and daughter Chris. Pat always thought of Will as another son. When someone asked about the lumber yard he always replied “The kids are running it”. Pat was proud of the kids and the lumberyard.
Pat was larger than life. He loved to laugh and drink a beer with his buddies. He enjoyed coaching his son in soccer and basketball. Pat’s passions were fishing, boating, diving for lobster and directing the family. The entire family enjoyed all the water sports and spent many week-ends and vacations in the Florida Keys.
As for the directing – that was Pat.

Grew up with Pat in Rhinecliff, NY. Although we lost contact over the years, we reconnected over the past 5 years and I was able to learn all he accomplished in his adult years. He was a fine man and has left a huge hole in the lives of his family, friends and his buddy Skipper. I am comforted to know he doesn’t have to fight against cancer any longer and can rest in peace. May God bless and comfort his family …

We are very sorry to learn of the passing of Pat. He was always there for the Contractor and we enjoyed many
years of great service at Gator Lumber. He was an easy fun loving guy to be with and a friend to all. I have a great memories of
a Pheasant Hunting trip to So Dakota given
as an appreciation to his Contractor’s Business.
Our prayers are with his wife and family.

Pat was a warrior. He faced his cancer bravely and never gave up hope. We were classmates at Rhinebeck Central many years ago. I saw him at our 40th class reunion and was looking forward to our 50th. He will be missed by all of his classmates. Rest in Peace Pat and may your memory be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing you!
