We are celebrating the passage of a very strong independent woman, who raised two very strong, independent women and two very strong independent men . She was a family person through and through. Her life revolved around creating and nurturing her children for the first 26-30 years of her adult life.
She was the president of the local PTA at Samoset Elementary, where we all attended for at least a few years, and she loved being in charge. That followed through her entire lifetime. She was passionate about making sure the school administration listened to the parental input.
Later on, she enjoyed the competition of a basketball team with moms against daughters at the only youth center available to us in the country setting we lived in. She was the one to pick us up from band practice or cheerleading practice, or 12am football game bus trips. I learned to drive with her and she took me down long country roads to do so well before I was able to get my license. I know she instilled the love of camping/fishing in my sister. God bless her for that.
She was the sole provider for the family for an extended period, but she managed to pull it off. After all the children left, her travels took her to Alabama where she became the manager of a KFC restaurant. Again, her love of food became her source of support. As time does, she moved forward to meet the love of her life, Edward Hurt. She lived most contentedly with him for many years. When he passed on to the next world, my loving sister Peggy provided a comfortable residence for her and cared for her for about 10 years.
As fate would have it, she was able to move to the East Coast, and enjoy the benefits of a home near her family there. Since then, her health declined and required additional help.
We come together today to celebrate the dedication of this woman to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She remained steadfast in her commitment to her family and friends.
As you can see, we don’t care who preceded her in death, or who remains alive. This is a tribute to her, not them. We hope you can understand that. It’s all about her.

Mary Ellen and family, I am sorry to hear you’ve lost your Mother.
It is so hard, and no words can fill the gap she has left.

We knew her for a short period of time, but realized she was a very special person. So fortunate to have known her. She will be missed by all.

Mary Ellen it was an honor knowing Frances. She lived a great life and was loved by many. She will be greatly missed.
