Mary Nolan, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by close friends in her home in Sebastian, Florida at sunset on August 11, 2024. She was born and raised in Media, Pennsylvania and a 1967 graduate of Penncrest High School. Mary resided in Richmond, VA for several years in her early adult life, but returned to her hometown of Media to raise her son. Following her well-deserved retirement, Mary was able to bring her lifelong dream of living near the ocean to fruition by moving to Sebastian, Florida where she enjoyed spending time on the beach, watching the shuttle launches, and making new friends. During her time there, she worked for the City of Sebastian, volunteered with the local H.A.L.O. animal shelter and participated in a cancer support group, Friends After Diagnosis, where she was able to share her passion for horses with other group members at the Special Equestrians of the Treasure Coast. Mary will be remembered for her fiercely independent spirit and her ability to make friends wherever she went.
Mary is the daughter of the late Charles F. and Ann Nolan (nee Mesick). She was also preceded in death by her sister Jane Nolan-Orr. Mary is survived by her son Craig (Kimberly), sister Ann Hudson, brother Charles Nolan (Cathie), granddaughters Rory and Keira, nephew Stephen Hudson, and numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s honor to H.A.L.O. Animal Shelter (https://halorescuefl.org/), Special Equestrians of the Treasure Coast (https://www.specialequestrianstreasurecoast.org/) and or Friends After Diagnosis (https://www.friendsafterdiagnosis.com/)
“The Parting Glass”
A Scottish & Irish traditional song, often sung at the end of a gathering of friends.
Of all the money that e’er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I’ve ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I’ve done for want of wit
To mem’ry now I can’t recall
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
But since it has so ought to be
By a time to rise and a time to fall
Come fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

Thank you Craig for this beautiful tribute to our friend, Mary. She was remarkable and always ready to have some fun.
We both enjoyed being at Special Equestrian’s barn hanging out with the horses and the women, some Friends After Diagnosis cancer survivors like ourselves and the volunteers for the program created for us. The trainers were awesome, knew their stuff and helped us to learn about being around horses safely and with fun.
We will miss Mary being out there at the barn. She was such a natural around the horses. I am sure we will sense her there no matter what & be blessed by it.
Peace be with you and your family,
Fran
