Margaret Mary Birmingham Newman

May 05, 1953 ~ December 04, 2024

Margaret (Margie) Mary Birmingham Newman, 71, of Vero Beach, Florida (formerly of Lake in the Hills, Illinois and McHenry, Illinois) passed away December 4, 2024 at VNA Hospice, Vero Beach, Florida, after a short but intense battle with Stage 4 lung cancer.  Margie’ remains have been cremated.

Margie was born in Chicago, Illinois, on the west side, on May 5,1953 to the late Thomas L. and Helen Margaret (Deasy) Birmingham.  Her family later moved to McHenry, Illinois in 1957. She graduated from Marion Central High School in 1971. On September 19, 1987, she married Daniel A. Newman at St Patrick Catholic Church in McHenry, Illinois.

Margie worked at and retired in 2012 from the McHenry County Department of Transportation (MDOT) as their bookkeeper (and much earlier as the receptionist also).  After she left, it took one employee to be the full time receptionist and two to perform the bookkeeping functions (Margie was irreplaceable).  In 2015, Margie left the state to enjoy the “good life” with Dan to become a full time resident of Vero Beach, Florida.  She loved completing crossword puzzles and following friends and relatives on Facebook.  Margie will always be remembered by friends and relatives for her intense and emotional hugs.

Margie is survived by her husband (Dan), a step-daughter Victoria Newman, a sister Theresa (Thomas) Blake, brothers and sisters-in-law Kathleen Birmingham, Barbara P. Newman, Melvin Krueger, Kathleen (Cobert) Mueller, David (Carol) Newman, Barbara (Harvey) Brusky, Joseph (Alicia) Newman, Susan (Stephen) Worley, Dianne (Marvin) Barnes, and Mathew (Shelly) Newman, many, many loving and loved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and even a few great-great nieces and nephews.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Patrick and Dennis Birmingham, and brother-in-law James P. Newman and sister-in-law Marjorie (Newman) Krueger.

Celebrations of Margie’s life are being planned for mid-January in Vero Beach, Florida and late-January or early-February in McHenry, Illinois.  A private burial will be held in McHenry, Illinois at Saint Patrick’s Countryside Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in Margie’s memory to the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice Organization, 920 37th Place, #101, Vero Beach FL 32960 or online at https://foundation.vnatc.com/

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
