On October 18, 2022, Jon Marvin Whitaker lost his long, hard fought battle with cancer. At his bedside was his wife of 23 years, Deborah Whitaker.
Jon was born in Columbia to Lorenzo Robert and Virginia Belle Whitaker on October 11, 1936. He was the fourth of their five children. Jon graduated with a degree in Ceramic Engineering from Clemson University. Until 1988, he owned Carolina Ceramics, Now U. S. Bricks. Jon was an avid golfer and member of the Spring Valley Country Club and Santee Resort Club for many years. In 1999, he and Debbie retired from Columbia to Vero Beach, Florida.
Jon was a special uncle to his nieces and nephew. It was no secret that if Mama said No…just ask Uncle Jon. He delighted in spoiling the “kids”. Jon is predeceased by his brothers, Dr. Halford S. Whitaker and Mr. Robert W. Whitaker and sister Julia Whitaker Harrington. He is survived by sister Virginia Whitaker Rose and nieces Diane Harrington Correll (John), Rebecca Harrington Clawson (States), Mary Alice Rose Edmonds (Carter), Sandra Whitaker Steward (Randall). Virginia Whitaker Milam (Paul) and nephew Robert Rose, and their families.
Jon was a true Southern Gentleman and beloved by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jon’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
