Joan Ellen Hewes, 88, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2022, at her home in Barefoot Bay, FL.
She was born on March 10, 1934, in Camden, NJ, and was the only child of the late George and Marion Schaefer.
Joan married, the late, Wheaton F. Hewes and together they raised their family in Lindenwold, NJ. Mrs. Hewes worked as an executive secretary for the Lindenwold Public School District for thirty years. Following retirement, they relocated to Orlando, Florida, where she worked nine years at Walt Disney World as an executive secretary.
Mrs. Hewes was a member of the Bakers Garden Group in Lindenwold. She enjoyed reading, cross stitch, knitting, crochet and spending time with her family and many dear friends. When not in the presence of family and friends, Joan stayed connected with them through Facebook and Facebook games.
She leaves her memories to be cherished by her daughter, Kathleen Ingham of Barefoot Bay, FL; son, Wheaton Hewes of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, George (Teresa) Hewes of Orlando, FL, Lisa (Sean) Ingham of Runnemede, NJ, Wheaton (Jennifer) Cifelli of Michigan; great-grandchildren, Molly Cifelli, Jack Cifelli, Oliva Cifelli, and numerous cousins. She also leaves close friends, who she treated and called her family, Rita McNally of Barefoot Bay, Edna Askew and Sandra Rigilano both of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Wheaton F. Hewes.

Very sorry for your family’s loss. I enjoyed talking with Joan on Facebook and reading her comments on things I had posted.
She would tell my grandmom, Edna, what I would post all the time lol
I wish I had had the chance to meet her in person. My mom, Sandi Rigilano and my grandmom said I did when I was a little kid, but unfortunately I don’t remember.
I know Joan will be deeply missed by her life long friend, Edna Askew and by her “2nd daughter, Sandi Rigilano.
