Grace Camp Brakefield

October 06, 1937 ~ November 04, 2024

It is with great sadness that I tell you my beautiful mother, Grace Camp Brakefield, passed away peacefully in Vero Beach, Florida, this morning. I know everyone has followed her story, the miracle and inspiration she has been over the last 10.5 years after her stroke. It was a long, challenging road for her, but her true “Camp” determination came shining through. I think God knew she was tired and called her home to rest and where she will be whole again. Her faith was strong and undeniable.

I received a text from my Aunt Joan yesterday, and it made me smile as she relayed all the prayers & comments from mom’s church family. “Special lady,” “enjoyed being around her,” and the number one comment….”she was always fun.” She touched many people’s lives over the years. I know she was an active member of her community and her church, New Temple Baptist. My mom kept that sassy, fun attitude, AND even though she lost her verbal skills from her stroke, she could still give you a good Roll Tide, especially if you cheered for an opposing team.
Just ask Uncle Garrison and my husband!

I wanted to thank everyone for all the help and support over the years. Doctors, nurses, caregivers, and a particular social worker named Jessica at UAB. My cousins Susan and Sandra and my
my late Aunt Jean for taking my mom in and helping me keep her in Alabama as long as I possibly could. My Uncle Garrison and Aunt Joan for their support and weekly visits. My Aunt Ginny for all her support and love for my Mom. My brother’s Bobby and Ray for always coming through for me and supporting me each step of the way.
My friends, my always in my corner, and let me cry friends. (Kim, Regina, KellyAnne & Jillian) I know I wore you out! Lastly, my boys. My husband Michael, my sons Joshua, and Adam for allowing me a little space and grace to do what needed to he done.

My mom will be forever missed and loved, but I am happy in the fact that she will be reunited with my Grandmother, my Grandaddy Camp, and my big brother Ray. She is home now.

Arrangements for a Celebration of Life TBD at a later date in Alabama.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
