Gerald “Gerry” Makos was born in Allentown, PA to parents Stephen and Marion Makos. He was raised in Allentown where he attended Hellertown high School. After 9th grade, Gerry joined the Navy. One year into service, Gerry transferred to the Army and spent three tours in Vietnam before being discharged in 1967 due to service-related injuries.
After returning home, Gerry became an insurance adjuster for Fireman Fund Insurance Company for a year before he decided to follow his passion for the automobile industry. He turned his fascination for cars into a restoration and body shop that he named American Auto Body. He had five employees under him and loved his shop.
After owning and operating his body shop for years, Gerry decided he wanted to work on antique cars for a while. He sold his shop and moved to Florida in 1986, where he worked for Johnny and Mac Auto Body Shop in West Palm Beach. Gerry was proud to work for a business who was renowned for their antique car restoration. After the cars he worked on won several awards, he bought a semi-truck and began traveling the country as an owner/operator.
Gerald Makos Transport had five trucks and twelve trailers. Gerry ran his trucking company out of Nashville, TN for almost forty years. After retiring in 2009, Gerry moved to Lakewood Village with his wife of forty-two years, Linda Makos.
Gerry passed away January 26, 2022, at his home with his loving wife and family. Gerry’s passion for life is something he will be missed greatly for.
