Frank Watrous Hamilton, III

Frank Watrous Hamilton, III (“Ted”) was born in Franklin, New Jersey in 1948. His father was a decorated World War II veteran who was Officer of the Deck on the USS St. Louis at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked in 1941. His mother, Grace, worked at a veteran’s hospital in San Francisco during the war and was a homemaker in Old Lyme, CT and Harbour Island, Bahamas.

In a eulogy for his father in 2013, Ted told the congregation he had big shoes to fill and by all accounts, he filled them admirably.

Ted graduated from Blair Academy and the University of Pennsylvania before starting a career on Wall Street. Over an almost 50 year career, Ted was well known for his industriousness, perseverance and ingenuity.

Ted was an accomplished executive, including as a Senior Managing Director at Promontory Interfinancial Network at the time of its sale. He was a former pillar of his communities in both New York City and Old Lyme, CT, where he served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Florence Griswold Museum.

There was no one really like Ted. He was adored by many around the world, having lit up every room he walked into over many years. He was a gentleman from another era but also a jovial, irreverent, wonderful character and storyteller who made his family and friends laugh endlessly over many late nights in Old Lyme, Harbour Island, Nantucket and New York City, including at his beloved Union Club.

The last several years of his life were made difficult after a serious stroke but he never lost his sense of humor and delight in the absurd.

In January, Ted passed away in Vero Beach, FL after a short illness. He spent his last days surrounded by family and friends and was able to speak to so many he loved so dearly over his final days, telling them each “I love you” as he signed off.

He is survived by his sons Frank and Grant Hamilton, daughter-in-law, Diana Hamilton, granddaughters Edie and Grace Hamilton, sisters Stephanie Moore and Amy Rice and his beloved nieces and nephews, Hamilton Moore, Whitney Childs, Avery Twiss, Andrew Rice, and Alex Moore.

Arrangements are under the direction of Millennium Cremation Service, Vero Beach. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.millenniumcremationservice.com.

Our families shared many holidays together when we were young. Our father’s were best friends. Ted’s sense of humor kept us all laughing. We lost touch in our thirties, but I always had fond memories. He went on to conquer Wall Street apparently and he has moved on to make more friends and entertain old ones. Safe travels, Ted!

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
