A witness to the first invasion of outside forces in The Philippine’s northern most territory on December 8, 1941 Emilio Calica’s life has always inspired a deep and sweet reverence form patients, his friends, family members near and far and most of all from his beloved immediate family. Perseverance, humility and devotion.
Emilio’s wife, Emily Jermain, a fellow medical professional birthed two children who “followed in their parent’s footsteps” by focusing their own lives on serving others. In Manila, son Carl Calica graduated from the same medical school as his father Far Eastern University. Son Kevin Calica, a designer, learned from observing hospitals and medical offices the value of compassion and the preciousness of life.
Encountering the world of our dear Dad Emilio you know the care and gentleness it took to create and tend gardens large and small. If you knew Emilio you knew the power of silence. Following the sunshine and cherishing warmth Emilio enjoyed life by the sea in his final two and a half decades
A lover of morning grapefruit and a highly disciplined daily routine, Emilio appreciated and attracted good neighbors who remain treasured friends to this day. In Dad’s final hours and minutes he was blanketed by the care of VNA Home Hospice. To say we are grateful would be an understatement.
Emilio – a peaceful human – a quiet soul – always and forever – a supportive doctor to so many – a supportive husband, father, grandfather and so much more to all. Naturally there might be a desire to offer something tangible during a time like this and here is our wish.
If you’re inspired please do something kind and unexpected for a neighbor in honor of Emilio.

Sad to hear of Dr. E. Calica’s passing just recently. I worked with Dr. Calica years ago in Cohoes N.Y. He was a good physician and most of all a good human being. I considered myself fortunate to have known him and his wife Emily. Condolences to his family.
