With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Beverley Joan Karbonik (Née Morrissey) on December 23, 2024. To all who had the privilege of knowing her, Joan was a beacon of good humor, kindness, and genuine care – a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and dear friend.
Born on October 31, 1941, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Joan brought light and laughter to everyone around her. She attended Miles Macdonnell Collegiate, where she met the love of her life, Walter (Wally) Karbonik. Their remarkable journey together spanned over 61 years, beginning with their marriage on June 15, 1963. Soon after, they embarked on an adventurous life that took them to Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, back to Montreal, Calgary, Chicago, and finally to their cherished home in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Joan embraced each chapter with unmatched enthusiasm, resilience, and grace, turning every house into a warm and loving home.
Joan was a proud and devoted mother to her two sons, Timothy and Jeffrey. Her love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life, whether it was cheering them on, sharing heartfelt advice, or simply being their steadfast anchor. She was also a proud grandmother to Tanner, Sydney, and Grace, who brought her endless joy.
A talented and passionate golfer, Joan was such a formidable player that her sons insisted that she play from the men’s tee during family tournaments. She was also an enthusiastic bridge player and a passionate traveler, exploring the world with Wally and delighting in the beauty of new places and cultures. Together, they traveled across Canada, visited countless U.S. states, and explored Europe and Asia, always returning with incredible memories and stories to share.
Joan is predeceased by her loving parents, William and Kathleen Morrissey, and her eldest brother, Roy (Eleanor). She is survived by her brothers, Jerry (Mary) and Clifford (Evelyn), and a number of beloved nieces and nephews. Joan will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Wally, her sons, Tim (Brooke) and Jeff (Elaine), and her adoring grandchildren.
Heaven is brighter with Joan’s presence, and we take comfort in knowing she is at peace in God’s embrace. In keeping with her wishes, a private cremation and family gathering have taken place. Joan’s spirit of love, laughter, and grace will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
