Ann Marie (Annie) Blakeslee Emott

July 24, 1955 ~ January 18, 2022

Ann Marie (Annie) Blakeslee Emott, 66, of Vero Beach, died January 18, 2022, with family at her side. Annie was born July 24, 1955, in New Haven to the late Mary and Dwight Blakeslee, of North Haven.

She lived and worked in Connecticut until soon after her marriage to her late husband William Emott in 1995. Family life took her briefly to northern California and then to Vero Beach, FL, where she raised two daughters, Erin and Alyssa. She returned to work in customer service at the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital and retired from there in 2020.

Family was the center of Annie’s universe. She loved spending time with her daughters, Erin and Alyssa, and her large extended family, many of whom have migrated to Florida. She made it a point to be at as many family gatherings as she could and was always sorry when family circumstances or the occasional hurricane prevented her from making a trip to Connecticut or Rhode Island for family occasions. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and tending her collection of flowering plants.

Annie will be missed by her loving daughters, Erin (Daniel Dominguez) of Tallahassee and Alyssa of Vero Beach and her nine siblings, Mary Blakeslee (Laszlo Bockh) of Washington, DC, Sally (James) Kaczynski of Rhode Island, Richard Blakeslee of Connecticut, Charles (Melissa) Blakeslee of Florida, Margaret Civitello of Connecticut, Pat Blakeslee (Brooks McKinney) of Maine, Jon (Harriett) Blakeslee of Florida, H. James (Kim) Blakeslee of Florida, and Robin (Paul) Fostini of New York; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their offspring.

She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, William; and her brother, Dwight.

The family is extremely grateful to the staff of the oncology, pulmonary medicine, critical care, and emergency departments at the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital for the phenomenal care and support they extended over the last three years.

Gifts in her memory may be made to McKee Botanical Gardens, Vero Beach, or a charity of your choice.

No service or calling hours have been planned. Family will celebrate her life in Rhode Island later in the year.

My thoughts and prayers to Annie’s daughters and family. I am so sad to hear of Annie’s passing. Her strength and perseverance inspired and amazed me and her witty humor was so refreshing and appreciated. She was a special lady and I will always remember her laugh.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
