When I look back on John’s years as a Bonaventure trustee, I can say without hesitation that he helped guide the school through one of the most difficult periods in its history. He was a “rock” for all of us. I send my promise of prayers for you and the family.

Dear Judy,
I was incredibly fortunate to work with John at TIAA and lucky enough to work directly for him at a critical point in my career. I learned so much from him–especially how to work with both colleagues and clients. He always represented himself and our organization with total class and distinction. In my subsequent years in business, government, charity and board positions I often think of John and attempt to model the example he set. I especially admired his deep commitment to his faith.
You and your family are in our prayers…may he rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon him.

Dear Judy
I had the pleasure of working in John’s organization at TIAA early in my career. He was a tremendous leader overall but there was one experience I had with him that had a lasting impact throughout my career. He and I were in Albany, NY for a meeting with the State Comptroller regarding a very large enterprise client. He could see my apprehension in both meeting with the client as well as being with him as a senior level executive at TIAA and he suggested we get a cup of coffee in advance of the meeting. Rather than prep for our meeting, he asked me about my family and when I replied I had four young boys, he mentioned that he likewise was the father of four and how much they meant to him. He then made a comment that has stayed with me throughout my career – in short, he said that while the work we did for TIAA was important and impactful, that I should never forget that my family and my kids were the most important priority and to be sure I remembered that regardless of how crazy things may become with work related issues.
That sentiment and the example he set as a leader guided me throughout my career at TIAA. I suspect there were countless individuals at TIAA he likewise inspired and molded.
I regret that I never got the opportunity to let him know how impactful that cup of coffee and discussion was to me and to thank him for it in person.
My condolences and prayers to the entire McCormack family.
