Wayne Leroy Friar, 83, of Barefoot Bay Florida, passed away on February 2, 2023. He had a heart attack at home in the morning and passed in the ER shortly after.
Wayne grew up in Fort Wayne Indiana with his two brothers and one sister. They got along well and had many adventures together. He was the last of the family to pass. His mother Ann and father Earl were a big part of his life growing up in urban Fort Wayne.
Wayne was a lifelong soccer player. Goalkeeper was his position. He played on the Fort Wayne Soccer club for many years and always enjoyed watching any game that was on. He was most partial to Bayern Munich and Manchester United. He shared that love of soccer with both of his kids who played into their school years.
Wayne graduated High School and, after some odd jobs here and there, ended up working in insurance like his brother Gene. He would spend many years in this profession until his retirement in 2000, though he did some consultant work into 2003.
Wayne first married his high school sweetheart, Peggy (Katherine Gray), in 1964. Wayne and Peggy were married and divorced three times.
In the late 1970s Wayne left behind the cold winters of Fort Wayne. Where he lived part time in Fort Myers Florida with old friend Dick Wozniak and some time on a houseboat in Fort Lauderdale’s Marina Bay where he met and married his second wife, Linda Howells.
They married after living together for several years at a great celebration at the Holiday Inn in Fort lauderdale. Shortly after they moved into a home in Deerfield Beach as they started a family. Their daughter Siddie and son Nicholas arrived on the scene in 1985 and 1988 respectively. Wayne strived to be a good dad to these 2 youngsters, sharing his love of soccer and mischievous soul. He was a coach for his kids soccer teams through many years. He was a great storyteller and set people at ease. Wayne was very kind and steady. Those who knew Wayne would say there wasn’t a mean bone in his body.
The Friar family lived together in Deerfield Beach until 1999 when Wayne and Linda divorced.
Wayne stayed in the area briefly after the divorce. He soon met his fourth wife, Roberta Munroe. Wayne and Roberta married in 2001 and moved to the Sebastian area. They bought their home in the Barefoot Bay Community in 2008 and would remain there until his passing in 2023. Wayne became the stepfather of Roberta’s children Paul and Scott Alexander.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta Friar, his ex-wife Linda Friar and their children Siddie and Nicholas Friar, his step-children Paul and Scott Alexander, his ex-wife Katherine (Peggy) Gray, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

I forgot to add that my father served in the Marine Corp as a Radio Telegraph Operator from 1953-1967. And that he was very well-loved in his community of Barefoot Bay.
I miss him so much.
