Amelia “Millie” Santaliz, a mighty woman of God, age 60, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida passed away Tuesday morning, February 7, 2023, at her home after a courageous five-year battle with esophageal cancer.
She was born July 23, 1962, in Brooklyn, New York a daughter of the late Jose Santaliz and Carmen Casiano of Puerto Rico.
Millie was preceded in death by her brother George and sister Margie Santaliz.
Millie is survived by her four children Chakira Ramirez, Raul Ramirez, Linda Siew, and Amanda Gomez. Her daughter-in-law Michaela Linderman and her son-in-law Gerald Siew and Oscar Mendez; Her Granddaughters Genesis, Hope, Alana, and her two beloved Grandsons. Her two brothers Alfredo Santaliz and Joey Santaliz; Her sisters Virginia Santaliz, Carmen Santaliz, Rosa Santaliz, and Leticia Baraza. Her beloved pet and guardian Cane Corso Ninja Santaliz. She also leaves many other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will sadly miss her.
Millie was a mighty woman of God who devoted her entire life to her children. As a lover of life, animals, and a homemaker, she enjoyed raising her children in the word of God, spending quality time with each of her grandchildren, attending and hosting huge family gatherings with lots of food, music, dancing, and laughter. A woman with a true heart of gold, always there to lend a hand to anyone in need, or an open ear with absolutely no judgment. She was truly everyone’s mother.
After spending her childhood on the beautiful native island of Puerto Rico she moved to Brooklyn, New York to finish school and attended Bayridge All Girls School. As an inherently hard worker, she became a City Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1989. Millie won the safest driver of the year award for 7 consecutive years. Unfortunately, she suffered a back injury while walking down the icy steps delivering mail. Millie and her family decided to make the big move to Florida in 1998 for a slower lifestyle following her closest friend and co-worker Emma Rivera, leaving all of her family behind in Connecticut for a new beautiful adventure with her four children.
With her new life in Port Saint Lucie, Florida she quickly made close friends (Angela Roselli, Annette Trinidad, Carlina Beverly, Edna Anthony) that became family. Millie had a love and way with children that led her to become the “Mom” of Kidz Korner, an after-school care program in her large residential community. Millie also hosted Princess House Parties and was top in her programs. She loved spending her days with her family at the pool.
Later in life due to her Kyphosis, she no longer could do what she used to. Her priority became God and relying on his strength and word to get her through the many pains of life. She made sure to instill what she learned about God in her children. Millie always boasted that all 4 of her children graduated high school. When she became a grandmother, they became her world. She developed a love for orchids and had a wonderful collection.
In 2018 she was diagnosed with Esophageal cancer and silently fought her battle for 5 years. It was a true miracle how long Millie held on for her family considering her preexisting conditions. She would attest her strength and perseverance through life and especially the end all unto God praising him through the pain and the many miracles he had given her. Millie spent every morning praying for the world and her family all with a cup of coffee and a smile. Her morning devotional messages to us all will surely be missed.
