Edward Raymond Shivers

September 25, 1944 ~ January 07, 2020

Fort Pierce, FL – Edward R. Shivers, 75, went home to be with his Lord on January 7, 2020. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by loving family.

Edward was born in Long Branch, NJ on September 25, 1944 and was soon adopted to Edward Reeves Shivers and Alice Gerity Shivers (both pre-deceased) they later moved to French Woods, Hancock, NY, where he would soon meet Sharon Elaine Bouchoux, who would become his bride on December 30th, 1967.

Edward was a long time member of the Byram Bay Christian Church in Hopatcong, NJ, Hope Church in Randolph, NJ and attended The Crossings Church in Vero Beach, FL in recent years. Ed enjoyed studying the Bible and was an avid reader of history books. He was a well-read and intellectual man, yet remained down to earth. Ed also had a great sense of humor that stayed with him throughout his life and to the very end. He had a way of making people feel at home and special.

An avid Nascar fan, he and his family enjoyed attending many races and he had quite a collection of Nascar models. Ed loved his NY Giants and college football. He was great at football picks and often shared them with his grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Edward is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon Bouchoux Shivers. Edward and Sharon are an example of a genuine marriage, committed to the Lord Jesus and each other on the mountain tops as well as through the valleys. They lived and loved through many joyful and momentous times, including the birth of their daughters – Adrienne Shivers Scognamiglio and Melanie Shivers Ruel (Michael). The arrival of grandchildren, Thomas, Alicia and Maretta Scognamiglio; Michael and Morgan Ruel, and great grandson, Nathaniel “Nate” Scognamiglio (Alicia). Edward is also survived by his brothers and sisters in law: Rodney and Marsha Bouchoux, Lynn and Russell Bass and Carol and Glenn Zervas. He is also survived my several cousins. “Uncle Eddie” is also survived by his many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. He holds a special place in their hearts. He is loved and will be sorely missed by all.

One of Ed’s favorite scriptures: “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away…look I am making everything new.” Rev. 21:4-5

I’m truly sorry for your loss, it’s always hard to find the right words, whenever I lost someone in my family, just knowing I had others who cared meant a lot. I didn’t know your dad personally, but he was a NYGiants fan, that makes him great in my book! My continued prayers and thoughts.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭46:1-2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“”Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Dear Mel and family… words are tough to find when we lose a loved one. Their will be peaks and valleys in your grief and mourning. Praying that our Heavenly Father will give each of you peace and comfort and rest. Knowing your loved one is with Jesus is such a beautiful thought to hang on too. “And He will raise you up on eagles wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun., and hold you in the palm of His hand”.

I am so sorry to learn of your sorrow; Eddie was (and, even more importantly, still is) a wonderful person to know. He impacted all of us who had the privilege of knowing him; my prayers are with all of you as you walk onwards, looking ahead to that glorious day when our tears, too, will be wiped away. (I can only imagine the reunion with Jack…)

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
