Edward Charles Hamilton, Sr., also known as Big Ed or Big E, age 59, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Winter Beach on November 18, 2022. Ed was born on October 1, 1963 to Eugene “Sleepy” and Alice Hamilton and was a lifelong resident of Indian River County.
Ed followed in his father’s footsteps and was employed for forty years at Indian River County Road and Bridge Department. He was looking forward to retirement in 2023. Ed enjoyed family time, fishing, growing avocados and mangos in his front yard, and riding the Sebastian Buffer Preserve. He was a Vero Beach fighting Indians football fan and enjoyed watching the Miami Dolphins and Florida State University Football games. He was a great storyteller that always started with “I’ve got a good one for ya.” Ed was a gentle soul and was loved by many.
He is survived by his children, Eddie, Mariah, and Dawson Hamilton; sisters, Ruth Ann Sheets, Linda Starns, Peggy Hamilton, and Donna Snycerski and many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as several great nieces and nephews. Ed had co-workers and friends that were his second family.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Alice Hamilton and brothers, Kenny and Fred Hamilton.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I have very fond memories of Ed in his younger years. We both swam for Bill Priestley and being at practices and swim meets on the weekends with our families were so much fun. My condolences to his sisters who were also part of the swim team family. I haven’t seen him in a few years, but when you saw him he was always so kind.

Uncle Eddie, Your generous ways and thoughtfulness towards others is a trait that is so rare these days. You will certainly missed by so many, family and friends alike, that were the recipient of your kindness. The way you carried yourself throughout your life should be an example to everyone of a life well lived. May you Rest In Peace and reap the rewards from the Lord in heaven that you most certainly have earned. Christopher Zinck
