I was stationed with Woody at Comiso, Sicily in 1983. One other lady (Sue Gerard), Woody and I met the first night in-country; Sue was my room-mate, she’d heard Woody knew a bit of Italian, so the second night,, she walked over to him, pulled him up saying, “Come on, we’re going shopping and we need an interpreter!” From then on, everyone called us “Three’s Company” and I was, of course, Chrissy .
For the next several months, we went all over Sicily together and had a blast! The beaches, shopping, touring, restaurants, hanging out and having fun.
After Woody left, we lost touch and I really missed him. Many years and several failed attempt to find him, Woody and I finally reconnected! It was just a few weeks before his death, but he sounded the same as all those years ago. We spoke for an hour or so, reminiscing, sharing stories, laughing and even a little crying. After Woody left this earth, his family called to let me know; they said it was so good to see him laughing and smiling. I am forever grateful that I was able to find my “big brother.” My Woody.
Rest in peace, Sweet Soul.
