Marjorie “Sally” Groom

February 03, 2022 ~ March 31, 1918

Marjorie (Sally) Groom passed away February 3rd, 2022 at the age of 103. She was the daughter of Ed and Ruth Tweed of Scottsdale, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Ruth Tweed, a brother Bruce Tweed and her husband, Dale Groom.
She is survived by her children Shelley Trevor, Lincoln Groom, wife Tracy Cohen, Randall Groom, wife Becky Blackmon and grandchildren, Matthew Groom, Elizabeth Allenbaugh, and Rebecca Groom as well as three great grandchildren. She has lived all over the United States but her favorite locations were Charleston, SC where she lived on the waterfront, Show Low Arizona on her ranch and Vero Beach Florida where she could be near family. Sally graduated from Northwestern University with a Masters degree in English.
The loves of her life were her children, Shelley, Lincoln and Randall. She heartedly encouraged and supported their passions—Link and Randy’s flying careers, Shelley’s riding, painting, and writing.
Sally loved to travel and did so extensively with her physician husband, Dale.
After she inherited her father’s ranch in the White Mountains of Arizona, Sally’s spirit further blossomed. She gave free rein to her love of entertaining-happy hours, picnics, dinners (many remember her Brunswick stew), and the famous Annual Beef Roast, a week-end party complete with outdoor games and awards.
She loved all kinds of animals big and small, always having a dog at her feet and enjoyed watching Shelley’s horses grazing in the pasture.
She loved to read and would rent university sponsored video lectures, one after another, on a variety of academic subjects.
Sally’s spirit and love of life never diminished. Whatever life offered, she accepted or celebrated. She took in stride both life’s major and minor upsets, always saying, “It’ll pass.”
Everyone who knew her, loved her, and misses her.
Memorials may be made to the H.A.L.O. No-Kill Rescue at 710 Jackson Street, Sebastian, FL, 32958 or the Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary, 5604 New Road, Hollywood, SC, 29449

Dear Shelley, what a lovely tribute to your mother in the (Charleston) Post & Courier — it brought back happy memories of our friendship at the Charleston Day School, and one of my first rides at your home. The Tennessee Walker was far more interested in dashing back to his stall — fortunately I ducked! If you have a minute to reply, I’d love to e-mail you directly. I’ve just ordered your memoir from 2019! Meanwhile, my deepest sympathy for the loss of your dear mother, whose picture looks just the same as in the 50’s!! All the best,
Anne (Morandiere Cooper)

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
