Celebrating the life of Rick Sappington
Vero Beach, Florida
A man of INTEGRITY, COURAGE AND LOVE
Our personal HERO, now lives in Heaven above.
On November 23, 2019 at the young age of 52, Rick was called home to be with the Lord. After 11 days of fighting to hang on for his family….
his wife whispered to him, if you see Jesus, run to him.
He passed 10 mins later, as we are sure, he fell into Jesus arms.
He fought brain cancer for over 4 1/2 years and through it all his spirit, faith and sweetness was never broken…as well as his unfailing love and devotion to his family.
Rick was born in Virginia and early in life lived in D.C. where he loved spending time with his family. He had great memories of snow skiing, scuba diving, visiting the Space museum and spending summers at the family beach house. Rick loved everything about the ocean.
Rick attended George Town Prep and then Virginia Tech where he received a bachelors degree. After college Rick pursued his dream of becoming a commercial pilot. Which brought him to Florida.
This is where FATE took root and GOD’S PLAN unfolded. Rick met and then married the love of his life Lorrie. They have had 17 years filled with more love than most people get in a life time. This saying hangs above their bed “Once in a while, Right in the Middle of an Ordinary Life, LOVE GIVE YOU A FAIRYTALE” They both knew their love was a blessing from God and will be forever cherished.
Not only did Rick fall in love with Lorrie but also her 5 year old twin boys Chase and Cody. From the start he was an amazing and devoted dad. He was never a step down from just being their dad. He loved the boys whole heartedly. He never missed a sport they played or a school function. About a year and a half later we were blessed with a sweet baby girl Cali. Now our family was complete. Cali was Rick’s little princess and he always wanted to show her how special she was. Daddy-daughter dances and picnics were some of their favorite things. He always wanted to show her how a man should treat a lady and to never settle for less. He was her protector, her hero. He never missed watching her cheer in competitions and then at VBHS under Friday night lights. Rick loved Chase, Cody and Cali will all his heart.
Rick had a quite and calm presence about him. He loved God and he loved and protected his family. He was devoted to his wife Lorrie and his kids Chase, Cody and Cali. He enjoyed his job as a commercial air cargo pilot. He enjoyed driving his super charged red corvette, scuba diving with Lorrie, the beach and traveling with his family. The family has been blessed to have so many beautiful memories to hold close.
Rick will be greatly missed but forever loved and honored by his wife Lorrie of 16 years. His loving children Chase, Cody and Cali. His cherished parents Richard “Frank”and Nancy Sappington. His cherished brother and sister Rob and Virginia and their sweet families. His Amazing Father in law- Jeff, Sister in law-Kim and Brother in law- Steve. As well as all of his other loving Aunt and Uncles. Each person he loved and cared for dearly.
Rick’s legacy would be his incredibly loving bond with his family and this quote to sum up the great life he lived.” The best things in life are the people we LOVE, the places we’ve been, and the MEMORIES we’ve made along the way”.
Until we see you again! We love you so very much!

Lorrie and family,
We loved Rick’s ability to find joy and laughter in everything and everyone. We are so thankful for visiting with you all at the football game last year. Our son Mike still remembers going for a ride in his red corvette when he was little.
We are thankful and blessed to call Rick a great friend. He will be forever missed!
Sending loving prayers,
Brian and Tina Paul

Hello Lorrie and family… I was looking to find and re-connect with my freshman year college roommate and was so sad to find this tragic turn of events. Rick was so kind and genuine. I have so many fond memories of our years together at Virginia Tech. I remember his 66 396, his passion for life, and his devotion to friends and family. Although I never had the chance to meet you, I trust you saw the same qualities in this amazing person and friend. I’m so sorry I did not find him sooner. My best also to Rob and Virginia – two of the best siblings a brother could ask for… My heart aches for all of you.

Lorrie, I am truly sorry for you and your families loss. I have been trying to re-connect with Rick, we worked together as lifeguards at the Delaware State Parks and were roommates for a summer or two. He was really a good guy
