Neil “Joe” Strnad passed away peacefully on Saturday November 27, 2021 at the age of 68 surrounded by his family, following six years of battling cancer. He was born on July 22, 1953 in Wakefield Michigan to parents Joseph and Lucile Strnad. Joe moved to Sebastian in 1978 with his first wife Penni and worked for Piper Aircraft, then worked alongside his brother Jerry managing The Sandrift Motel and Marker I Restaurant before starting his own contracting business Strnad Custom Builders in 1984. He established the majority of his life in Little Hollywood (Micco) with his second wife Laureen where he raised his three boys while working to develop a greater housing and residential community for Sebastian.
Joe was an active member of the Moose Lodge and Orioles Nest and was responsible for a large majority of construction throughout the Sebastian community. Joe also volunteered his construction crew throughout his lifetime to the development of the city of Sebastian for projects including the Creative Playground, fire station development, and the River School Music Building.
His mother and father precede him in death as well as his brother Jerry and sister-in-law Jane and brother-in-law Jack. Joe leaves behind his third wife Ping; Children Jessica Fitzgerald, Joey, Stephen and Eric Strnad; and two grandsons Mason Fitzgerald and Vanik Strnad. Joe also leaves behind both of his sisters Janette Nelmark and Sharon with brother-in-law Harold Johnson and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Joe was assisted by St. Francis Reflections Hospice in Brevard County (6905 N Wickham Rd Ste 403, Melbourne FL 32949) who took immaculate care of Joe and his family during their time of need. Family is suggesting instead of flowers, to consider a donation to St. Francis Hospice as they are a nonprofit organization. Arrangements for his memorial services are being made by his children as Joe will have a family only service after the New Year and a celebration of life open to his closest friends and to the public at Rack’M Billiards at a date to be announced.

Joe was always helpful by giving me a lift to class at Gogebic Community College where we attended. He will be missed by all who knew his generosity.

We will miss Joe. he did a fantastic job on our new office roof after a storm took it off. He also fought hard to combat the cancer.

Joe was my first boss and mentor. Back when he and his dad owned the gas station in Ewen, Michigan. I learned a great deal from both of them. Great men. I miss them both.
