Emil Weimann passed away at VNA Hospice House on Friday, November 12th – three months before his 91st birthday. In true, “Emil Fashion,” he collapsed in his home while working on a project that would have been daunting to most 40-year-old men.
Emil was born in St. Joseph, Michigan to Gustav and Hulda Noll Weimann. The family returned to Germany at the beckoning of family and friends, a “New Germany” and soon after WWII broke out. As the war raged on and Emil had become a teenager, it was a requirement for him to join the Hitler Youth; of course, it was not to be known that he was an American Citizen. Once the Russians took hold of what became known as East Berlin, the family knew they were in even more jeopardy. As all the children and Gustav were U.S. citizens, Hulda without papers, encouraged the family to flee and she would return to the United States behind them, of which she did eleven months after.
Only three weeks before Emil’s death, he shared a story about how his training to be a soldier in the Hitler Youth helped him to be a soldier “day one” when he reported to Korea with his troop. His Sergeant at that time acknowledged his soldiering skills by giving him the day off, his very first day! As he was a Contractor, Emil played a major role in providing civilization to his fellow soldiers and officers by building latrines, housing and the largest NCO club in Korea. After serving his time in Korea he returned to Chicago and his concrete business…of which he built many sidewalks and foundations in the city of Chicago. He proceeded to build his life and a family in Schaumburg, Illinois, relocating to Vero Beach, Fl in 1970 where he continued to work as a General Contractor and resident of Vero Beach until his passing.
Emil is survived by his sister, Irma Weichenhain. His daughters – Dareen Wagner of Kings Mountain, N.C.; Renee O’Hara and spouse, Dennis O’Hara of Cape Coral, Fl. His sons – Bruce Emil Weimann and spouse , Cindy Davis Weimann of Vero Beach, Fl; Marc Eric Weimann and spouse Claudia Muskat Weimann of Bargersville, Indiana. Grandsons – Steven Weimann, Erich Weimann. Granddaughter, Kira Weimann and many generations of loving cousins, nephews and nieces.
Emil is predeceased in death by his parents, Gustav and Hulda Weimann. His siblings – Reinhold Weimann, Freida Schulke, Erna Mueller and his love – the mother of his children and friend, Karin Weimann Gross.

The family thanks VNA Hospice for providing him comfort in his passing and the ceremonial pinning of Emil on Veteran’s Day. In lieu of flowers, the families’ preference is a donation to VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, Florida.
