Mack Reeves Shieder, 85, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away October 18, 2021 at VNA Hospice House.
He was born June 8, 1936 in Reevesville, SC to the late Joe and Everelle Shieder. Mack was raised, along with his 5 siblings, in St. George, SC and graduated from St. George High School. He was a member of Saint Matthews Baptist Church and he was a certified Deacon.
Mr. Shieder was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the 101st Airborne Division in Korea.
He earned his computer engineering degree during his time in the Army and went on to work for several defense companies such as Harris and Martin Marietta. He also worked for Xerox, IBM and NASA during the Apollo era. Towards the end of his engineering career, he relocated to Germany while working for Martin-Marrietta for 8 years. Mack retired in 1987 and moved to Vero Beach. He most recently managed Self Storage with his wife, Linda, in Vero Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Shieder of Vero Beach; children, Steve (Pat) Shieder of Vero Beach, Donna Suite of Quinton, VA, Kenny (Connie) Shieder of Minford, OH and Jimmy Shieder of Washington DC; sister, Hilda “Dolly” Johnston of St. George, SC; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In honoring Mack’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA and Hospice Foundation, www.vnatc.org or to the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County, www.hsvb.org.
