Drew L. Thompson

August 11, 1959 ~ September 01, 2021

Drew L. Thompson, 62, of Miami FL, passed away due to COVID complications on September 1, 2021.  He was born in Fort Myers, FL and grew up in Island Heights, NJ.  He went to Central Regional High School before moving to Brick Township.  After he graduated from Brick High School in 1978 he headed back south.

Drew was a gifted artist and considered by many to be the Artist to the Stars in South Florida and the Bahamas. Drew was a free spirit and an amazing artist, painting murals for some of the finest.  He could paint anything with amazing detail.  He was the Lead Artist on the restoration of Mar-a-Lago, much of the gold leaf in the historic mansion was restored by Drew.   In addition to art, he relished being outdoors, enjoyed boating and was a music lover.   A champion sailor who not only could sail but knew every component on a boat, whether an ice boat in NJ or a 40 foot sailing sloop. He was a trusted navigator and made many transoceanic deliveries for friends.  Beloved brother, cherished son, Godfather and friend to everyone, he was delighted in sharing interests and stories with everyone he met . Famous or folks he met in a jam session in a Tiki bar at some small port, they all became friends. South Florida and the world lost a bright spot. He loved Miami, and Key Biscayne, having lived there for almost four decades. He could have been a world famous artist but he loved the freedom to island hop, visit friends. He will be terribly missed by all who knew him.

He is predeceased by his father Merrill Thompson.  He is survived by his cherished mother Carole Tamback of Clearwater Beach, FL and her husband Edward Peter Tamback, Jr, his beloved brothers Dennis Thompson of Sacramento, CA, David Thompson and his wife Kellee and her children of New Port Richey, FL, Douglas Thompson of Palm Harbor, FL, his stepbrother Eddie Tamback and his children of Palm Harbor FL, his loving and caring stepsister Tara Tote and her husband Joseph and their daughters of Tinton Falls, NJ, his treasured goddaughter Angela Elaine Neese, and many valued and respected friends.

I knew the Thompson boys growing up in Island Heights. Our parents shared the love of boating and sailing. May he Rest In Peace and know the legacy he left behind.

Drew was my very close artist friend whom I have known for at least 20 plus years. I moved to Sarasota six years ago and he has come to visit me more than anyone else in Miami. He would always stop on his way to visit his mother in Clearwater. I spent this past New Year’s with him here at my house, and he came back just a few months ago. We explored and went to museums and the botanical gardens. We had many shared interests and a great friendship. Just was texting him on his birthday, I had no idea he was feeling ill. He did not mention it. I can’t stop thinking about him. He helped me paint my current house in many wild colors because I’m a colorful girl and it rained the entire time he was here. We were painting, in the rain, Outside, on scaffolding- because of course he was on a tight schedule to get back to other work. He was going to come soon to help me paint my new house after he finished the rainbows in Miami and his work on the Walton house. I am just saddened and shocked. I think of him all day every day, especially when I see 1111 or 111. I miss you Drew

I met Drew in at the most trying time in my life at the time. I just flunked out of college, unemployed and had experienced a almost deadly car accident. After I recovered needed to make a living. Along Drew Thompson. as he painted on old refrigerator door for a friend I asked if he wanted be my partner as a paint contractor. He taught me how to use industrial Kraco airless sprayer. Together we made plenty of money painting over 100 condo units and 20 custom home in new construction. I can’t thank him enough for sharing his talent a trade. RIP Partner. I look forward to being your partnership again creating where dreams may come amongst the cloud. Thank you for our friendship. Master don’t really teach, they just ask you to pay attention and see for yourself. ó

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
