Harvey I. McFeaters

September 23, 1939 ~ August 08, 2021

Harvey I. McFeaters
September 23, 1939 – August 8, 2021

Harvey I. McFeaters, 81, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on August 8, 2021, after being diagnosed with late stage multiple myeloma and colon cancer in May. Instead of pursuing treatment, he chose to live out his final months with dignity and courage. He died in the arms of his loving wife of 58 years, Janet (Greene) McFeaters, at VNA Hospice House.

He is survived by his wife, and three children, Karen, Andrew and Elizabeth McFeaters Sheehan (Kristopher). He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Abigail Curtin (Alan) and Isabelle Foley. In death, Harvey joins his parents, Harvey D. and Agnes (Grange) McFeaters, his brother, Robert Bruce and youngest daughter, Jessica.

Harvey was originally from Brighton, Massachusetts and attended Boston Technical High School. Upon graduation in 1958, he served in the Army National Guard from 1958-1963. He attended Boston University at night and worked at the Greater Boston Bank (formerly the Brighton Cooperative Bank), on Washington Street for 31 years, eventually becoming president. He also served as president of the Brighton Board of Trade several times before retiring to sleepy Vero Beach in 1991.

Always a character, Harvey was fond of plaid, bagpipes, single malt scotch, loud neckties, the White Mountains of New Hampshire and attending Bruins and Beanpot games at the Garden with his three children (dinner at Joe Tecce’s first). In Florida he was fond of wearing Bruins, Red Sox or Patriots shirts and caps in the hopes of striking up conversations with Bostonians who took up residence in Vero Beach.

Donations in his name are encouraged to VNA Hospice House, Indian River County.

I met Harvey years ago while doing our walking exercise routine in Charles Park. Then it became a stroll for him. Then an occasional visit. I’ll miss our conversations about multiple topics, especially sports. My Tampa Bay Rays vs his Bosox. I’m maybe mostly saddened that my ears will never again be treated to his unique vocal pitch and classic Boston accent.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
