Edward Leo Quinn, III

August 04, 1942 ~ March 04, 2021

Edward Leo Quinn III, 78

Ed, lovingly known as Papa, was born August 04, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Ed and Gurna Quinn, and he was married to his love, Diane.  After the many medical challenges Ed has faced and overcome in the past few years, it breaks the families’ hearts to announce his passing occurred on March 04, 2021 from complications of the Corona Virus.

Although Papa did not attend church, he was a believer Christ died for all of us.  He knew the Bible better than many who attended church on a regular basis.  Papa loved waking up to read his comical calendars and sharing some of them on Facebook.  He loved his afternoon golf cart rides around the neighborhood with Diane, always with a cocktail in hand and their dog Sissy on the seat with them.

Papa looked forward to annual Quinn Christmas Dinners when he knew he would have most of his children, grandchildren, their significant others, and friends who were like family gathered, a tradition his mother started 41 years ago.  Papa enjoyed cruising so much and was crushed when voyages were put on hold, but with his ever-optimistic attitude, he had already booked a cruise for summer 2022 to celebrate his and Diane’s birthdays.  He also enjoyed his brotherhood at the Ocean Lodge #214 F&AM Masonic Lodge, which he shared with his “brother,” Dan Simpson.  And nothing made him prouder than when he would hear stories which started out with, “My Daddy said…”  A couple of the many things he instilled in his daughters was, “this too shall pass,” and “put your big girl panties on.”

Ed retired from Kings Colonial Ford, Brunswick, GA prior to moving to Ninety-Six, SC.  While there, he became involved with the Ninety-Six Chamber of Commerce and played an important role in starting up the annual Ninety-Six Festival of Stars celebration.  His retirement eventually led him to Stuart, FL where he has lived the past 3 years.

Ed is survived by his wife Diane Quinn, and former wife, Carole Scott; sister Sunny Archibald; children Jeanne (Jerry) Higby, Cathy Quinn, Amy (Mike) Hilley, Sherry Quinn, Regina (Glen) Fye, Robin (Tony) Williams, Jeff (Brenda) Ashley; grandchildren Jeff Quinn, Erin Neylan, Michael and Marilyn Hilley, Courtney Quinn, Briana Salyers, Jami Shirah, Christy Davis and Morgan Williams; along with 5 great grandchildren and a host of extended family and other friends who were like family.

Ed was very loved, and he will be greatly missed by many.  He was preceded in death by his parents Ed & Gurna Quinn, wife Shirlene Quinn, mother-in-law Ruth Wainright, and most recently his first grandson Eric Colburn.

Appreciate having the opportunity to read his obituary. Loved the familiar reflections of his life as shared by his Mother, my Aunt Gurna, and subsequently by Ed himself in his newsy FB messages and photos. Blessings to his beautiful family that gave him so much pleasure. You all were so loved by him.

Ed was my cousin. His mom, our Aunt Gurna became a frequent stop when we travelled to Florida. My cousin and I reconnected later in life. We shared a lot of Word With Friends, “punnies” and greetings on FB! Accept my deepest sympathies for your loss, Diane (his Mermaid), Sunny, Jeanne, Kathy, Amy and Sherry. He loved his family and enjoyed his life. Rest in peace, dear Corky!

Ed will be missed by many here at Kings colonial Ford where he worked for over 25 years. He was my mentor here as well as a very good friend. He was a good man with lots of stories. God bless his family.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
