Harry Henderson Jr.

December 16, 1949 ~ February 08, 2021

On February 8, 2021, Harry W. “Skitch” Henderson, Jr, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 71 at the VNA Hospice House.

Harry was born on December 16, 1949 in Bridgeport, CT to Harry W. Henderson, Sr. and Barbara (Hughes) Krug. In 1970 he received his degree from The Culinary Institute of America and for many years he owned and operated his own restaurant named Casa Lucia in New Haven.

He and his longtime spouse Kathleen raised their son Scott beginning in 1978, whom Harry worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for. He taught Scott to cook, drive a standard transmission vehicle, and to take time to enjoy the meaningful things in life like family. His career took him to places worldwide, including Dubai, to help open restaurants and in his later years he traveled throughout the state of Connecticut as a food rep, often showing the newbies a thing or two in the kitchen.

After retirement, Harry was a vital role in his grandchildren’s lives, cooking and caring for them in their formative years. Of all his accomplishments, his 3  grandchildren, Kayley, Scott Jr, and Brady, were his pride and joy. In addition he is survived by his beloved son Scott (Jesse Jo) Henderson of North Haven, his mother, Barbara Krug of Vero Beach FL, his ex-wife, several siblings and in-law family members, and his dear friends Donna and Gerry Reynolds of Sebastian, FL.

“When I die
Give what’s left of me away
To children
And old men that wait to die.

And if you need to cry,
Cry for your brother
Walking the street beside you
And when you need me,
Put your arms
Around anyone
And give to them
What you need to give to me.

I want to leave you something,
Something better
Than words
Or sounds.

Look for me
In the people I’ve known
Or loved,
And if you cannot give me away,
At least let me live in your eyes
And not on your mind.

You can love me most
By letting
Hands touch hands
By letting
Bodies touch bodies
And by letting go
Of children
That need to be free.

Love doesn’t die,
People do.
So, when all that’s left of me
Is love,
Give me away”

I’ve prayed for many months that God would surround you with strength, peace and love. That prayer is finally answered. RIP free of the body that tortured you. Love follows you to that place of peace.

To Scott, Jessie and family you were the the pride of his life .We are blessed to have had Harry for a friend. We have wonderful memories to look back on. Harry walked the neighborhood here in Ashbury he smiled and spoke to everyone he saw. When it came he was not able to walk people would ask about Harry we would tell Harry about them and he would remember who they were. I mention these who asked for him and showed him kindness. Marlene and Glen , Sheila And Ron, Linda and Mike, Sandy And Bob , Dana and Jessie , Debbie and Richard And Pat. Jan And Moreen at Hospice House as well as the whole staff were very caring and kind.

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me.

When tomorrow starts without me,
please try to understand, that an angel
came and called my name, and took me
by the hand. The angel said my place was
ready, In Heaven far above, and that I’d
have to leave behind all those I dearly
love. But when I walked through
Heaven’s Gates, I felt so much at home
when God looked down and smiled at me
and told me: “Welcome Home”
So when tomorrow starts without me,
don’t think we’re far apart. For every time
you think of me, I’m right there in your heart.

As our dear friends Donna and Gerry mentioned we were one of many who looked forward to Harry coming around each day. He would always say “Hi” and then “Have a good day”.
He will surely be missed.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
