Darcie Lynn Alcott, 71, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Darcie was born on October 8, 1953, in Norwood, MA. A graduate of Wareham High School’s Class of 1971, Darcie moved to Florida to escape the cold New England winters she so greatly disliked. She made Vero Beach her home where she embraced the warmth of the sun and the beauty of her surroundings.
Darcie had a long and varied career in sales, marketing, and administrative roles, where her passion for learning and advancing her computer skills made her an important member of her work teams. In her later years, Darcie was a self-employed contractor where she excelled in providing customer support for a software development company.
Darcie was an active and cherished member of the Midway Estates mobile home community. Her kind and giving nature, sharp wit, and sense of humor endeared her to everyone she met. She was always quick to lend a hand, share a laugh, or simply listen to a friend in need. Darcie was a Friend of Bill W. for many years. Her compassion and commitment to helping others recovering from addiction were truly inspiring. Darcie was a ruthless card and dominoes player and delighted in winning though she often laughingly said she “just got lucky”.
Over the years, Darcie played an integral role in her Homeowners Association, contributing as an administrative assistant, webpage designer, and a helpful presence wherever there was a need. Darcie dedicated her time to helping friends, neighbors, and family with important paperwork, legal documents, and served as a Notary.
Darcie loved fried clams and the simple joys of life. She will be remembered for her fierce advocacy for women’s rights, her love for animals—especially cats—and her affection for the beach and sun.
Darcie was predeceased by her parents, Shirley M. Alcott-Decas of Wareham and Sandwich, MA, and William R. Alcott of Wareham, MA and Pensacola, FL.
Darcie is survived by her siblings: Susan M. Alcott (and Tom Clancy) of Arizona, William Robert Alcott (and Anna Laura Jansma) of California, her identical twin sister, Bonnie Alcott of Sandwich, MA, Richard Alcott (and Martin Hicks) of Florida and her nephew, Matthew Files (and Tracy Files) of South Carolina.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date to honor Darcie’s wish to have her ashes spread on a Cape Cod beach on a beautiful sunny day. Darcie’s quick wit, humor, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, donations in Darcie’s memory may be made to an animal shelter of your choosing.

To the family of Darcie
I will start by saying from the time I first met Darcie in Delray and seeing her caring eyes wanting to help guide me when I first moved to Florida. She gave such comfort and help to me and so many others. Her passion was helping many, many women and put herself last. She was a dedicated servant in her altruistic movement on every level and force to helping all those who suffered. These acts of passing on grew into droves of people who were led by her example.
Darcie and I grew to be great friends and had our own personal inside jokes. Her love for her family was always evident when she spoke so fondly of her family and shared loving stories and pride. Along with helping so many people all through the state, she was devoted to those endeavors and to her family and freinds.
I will miss our hours long talks, long hugs, laughs and cries along with our long beach days and girls weekends. Before we knew it time flew by and it was time to say goodbye until next time.
It’s with a heavy heart that I say my final heartbreaking goodbyes my dear friend. You left a remarkably profound impression on my heart that will never be forgotten or filled. I know many others who feel the same way. Darcie was not surface, she was deep and invested in her relationships. I am so blessed I was touched by her love.
The belly laughs went on and on.
I will always cherish all we shared and you taught me. I know you know; I not only loved and respected you but would do anything for you when possible. You will be missed beyond measure. Rest in peace.
With deepest sympathies to Darcie’s family.
Sincerely,
Dawn Kozlik-Evans
