Janet B. Liljegren, B.S.N., R.N.

February 02, 1943 ~ November 25, 2024

Janet B. Liljegren of Melbourne, passed away on November 25th, 2024 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

Janet was born in Washington, D.C. on February 2nd, 1943 to Wallace and Emily Bidelman of Arlington, VA.  She had been a resident of Melbourne from 1988 to 1994 and again from 2016 to the current date.  From 1994 until 2016, she was a resident of Gainesville, Florida.

Janet graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1961 and then from Mankato State University, Mankato, Minnesota in 1965 with a B.S.N. degree.  She passed her R.N. requirements, first in Iowa, then Virginia, and later in Florida.

Janet was married to Gary Liljegren in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 21, 1965.  Their children: Kristin L. Maurice, and Alan W. Liljegren were born and raised in Iowa.  Currently, Kristin and her family live in Maine, and Alan and his family live in Texas.

After graduation, Janet spent her career in the nursing field first in Des Moines, then Alexandria, VA, Washington, D.C., and Davenport, Iowa.  She and Gary moved to Florida in 1988 where she worked for Family Practice of Brevard and then as the office nurse for Pediatrician Dr. Hugo DeHovne.  She became the Director of Nursing at C.A.T.C.H. of Brevard in Rockledge, and later moved to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.  Her specialty was Pediatrics.  She claimed that she knew little about big people, but was very comfortable with little people.

Jan was a quilter!  She has had wonderful relationships with many quilting friends over the years.  Many of the lasting forever memories are a result of the quilts she created.

Gifts in memory of Jan, if desired, can be sent to Space Coast Honor Flight or www.spacecoasthonorflight.org.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
