Charles Michael “Sonny” Reed

May 20, 1945 ~ July 31, 2024

Charles Michael “Sonny” Reed, P.O.2, US Navy, Retired, passed away on Wednesday, July 31st at home in Roseland, with his wife and daughter at his side.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on May 20, 1945, he was the son of Charles Joseph Reed and Elizabeth Agnes Hesson.

To anyone who knew him, he was a devoted husband and father. He loved his wife so much he married her three times! Sonny was one of the funniest men, and one of the kindest people you would ever meet, despite his hard exterior shell. He was quite the jokester, always making those around him laugh with his snarky, witty remarks. He loved his family, loved his country, and was always willing to help anyone who needed it.

Sonny was a lifetime member, and board member, of the Fraternal Order of Orioles, Nest #272 in Micco, FL. He donated countless years of heartfelt service to his club and all its members who were like family to him. On any given day you could find him on the porch sharing a cold one and a laugh with friends.

He is survived by his beautiful bride, Joanie, his daughter Samantha, sister Sue Hee, nephews, John and Joseph Hee, and a niece Katie Napolin.

He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Elizabeth Reed, and his aunt and uncle Mary and Frank Hesson.

Upon the passing of Sonny’s mother when he was thirteen, he was raised by his aunt Mary and uncle Frank, he remained in their care until he joined the Navy at the age of nineteen. They held a very special place in Sonny’s heart.

To those who knew him well he would tell them not to fuss over him. He is at peace, now. Take a moment to raise your glass in his honor and remember the good times with a smile.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Orioles Nest #272, 9330 US Highway 1, Micco, FL 32976

So sorry to hear about Sonny passing. Right now Mario is here visiting and very shorty after he leaves to go back to New York, my other son Andy will be coming to move us to NC. There won’t be any time for me to make it to the celebration of his life. It was so nice of you to include me in this rememberance. My health is not so great and Andy thought it better for us to be closer to him. Again sorry Sonny is gone from this life but I do believe he is where he was meant to be.
Love and Peace,
Jano and Doreen

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
