Jonathan T Zerkle

Jonathan Thomas Zerkle – “Jon”, “Zerk”

54 years young, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024.

Jon was one in a billion, a warrior…..incredibly smart, quiet, unique, and a special man who had a dry sense of humor and was unlike anyone you’d ever meet.  He was a talented mechanic for over 30 years who specialized in motorcycle maintenance and repair.  He enjoyed teaching others his trade and was proud to share his knowledge of his work.  He could hear a machine and diagnose it instantly.  Jon loved riding his variety of motorcycles, which he said each had a different personality, along with driving his Zoom Zoom Mazda’s and his Dodge Sprinter Van. He was so happy when he got his van and looked forward to adventuring in it. He enjoyed watching a variety of shows such as motorsports racing, Gutfeld, How It’s Made, Star Wars and Sci-Fi flicks.  Jon loved colorful lights, fireworks and was an avid reader.  He said that is how he learned a lot of information.  He liked being on his tablet on Telegram checking out random stuff, like funny memes.  He also loved sending random memes and pictures of various car decals to those he was closest to.  Watching rocket launches from Vandenberg AFB was another enjoyment of Jon’s. Then later he enjoyed watching a variety of rockets launched from the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) from the comfort of his backyard.  One specific rocket experience he loved watching was a SpaceX Dragon reentry light up the night sky. Jon was especially excited about the SpaceX Starship program process.  He said he would’ve gone to Mars if he could.

Zerk took pride in many years of volunteering as an official at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, CA. There he met his dear SCRAMP Kennel Crew friends that became family and who he made wonderful memories with.  Jon’s friends were one of quality and not quantity.  He also met his future wife, Juliet, at the raceway.  Their friendship turned into a relationship and years later he would move 3,000 miles away from California, the only state and home that he ever knew, to be with her in Florida.  It was a true love story the way God intended and placed them to be together.  Though they weren’t together for long, they made and experienced a lifetime of memories in a short period of time blessed many times over.

Recently, our family went on a cruise together.  While on the cruise, Jon hoped to see a launch from KSC head over the Caribbean ocean while on our ship, and he did!  He was so happy to see the full moon, which always occurs two weeks before the eclipse, while we were cruising.

Jon had a special place in his heart for and loved his nephew, Chase Zerkle.  He had beautiful eyes and a kind, caring heart just like his mother, Shirley Price.  Jon had an engineering mind like his father, Garwood Zerkle.  And Jon very much loved his brother, Jerry Zerkle.  Jon was happy and thankful for the family he had, including his immediate and newer extended family.

Thank you to William Child’s Hospice House for all the wonderful loving care that Jon and his family received.  May God bless them and their special facility.

A celebration for Jon’s life will be held in August where he will be laid to rest with his father and grandparents in the community where he loved and was raised.

Thank you to everyone that has prayed and sent messages.  They are much appreciated.  May God bless you all!

My brother was my mentor and had great patience with me trying to teach me about mechanics every time I could just call him and he always had the answer in seconds when I struggled for hours he has definitely left a giant empty space in my life that nobody can fill

We were not privileged to have Jon for a lot of years, but he packed a lot into the time we did have with him. He moved beyond a son-in-law, to a son(in-heart). He has left a void in the world that nothing can replace, except the memories he left with us. Miss you son. Love you. MJ

Jon- for 38 years, you’ve been the closest thing to a brother that I’ve ever had. I could not have been more blessed to have you as my Sons Uncle! Always stepping in when I needed you too. The dry sense of humor you both share, the way you look at each other when you’re trying not to laugh at somebody else’s Stupidity. The love of music, the ZERKLE SIGH, MoonMan❤️.. the special memories we all shared that last week. We are all saddened you’re not with us. I will forever remember the last blast we all saw together. The memories of Chase as a little guy wanting to be anywhere you were ❤️.. LOL OH THE ZERKLE HUMOR… dry and comical . Thank you for loving me as a sister. You’ve been a blessing..

We met you both at Laguna Seca and later during our time in Monterey.
I liked Jon immediately (our shared motorbike bond) and especially enjoyed our time with you both as you passed through Missouri on your way to your new home in Florida.
You were perfect for each other…and made many wonderful memories together. We hope those memories sustain you, Juliet, as you work your way through this difficult time.
With love,
Kurt & Angie Gibson

Jon is my cousin through Garwood Zerkle. My mom,Edith Zerkle-Scholl, was his sister. I remember when he and Jerry were young, we would watch them for Garwood and Shirley. He was always such a sweet guy! As we got older and weren’t around each other a lot, every time he would see me, he would have the biggest smile and come over and give me a big hug! His hugs were always warm and heart felt! Juliet, I am so sorry for your loss and sincerely appreciate the great love and care you gave to this sweet and kind man! Thank you for the effort you made to make sure you were the one that told my mom and I about his departure from this earth. It meant a lot to both of us! I have faith that we will be together again. With all of our love and support to you, Rebecca Scholl-Zerkle

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
