Dyan Schwall

November 26, 1926 ~ March 01, 2020

Dyan Schwall, 93, of Vero Beach FL, beloved wife of 37 years to Herman K. Schwall, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at her home with loving family members at her side.

Dyan (Dobrozensky) Schwall was born on November 29, 1926 to John and Rose Dobrozensky of Enfield, Connecticut. The last surviving sibling in her immediate family, Dyan is predeceased by her brothers Raymond Dobrozensky, John Dobrozensky, Walter Dobrozensky, Rudy Dobrozensky, Fred Dobrozensky and Herbert Dobrozensky and her sisters Leona Flossey and Renee Krim.

Dyan was born in the rural Hazardville area of Enfield, Connecticut, the youngest daughter of European immigrants and the last surviving sibling of nine children. Her early home life embodied Old World family values that stayed with her a lifetime, with hard work and caring for her family always at the core. As a young woman with aspirations for a career as well as for a family, she left her farmstead for New York City and before long, fate would pull her eastward to Long Island. Here she found the place where she would live a good life, raising her six children and creating a beautiful family home in Southampton NY. With her beloved mother Rose always close by, her siblings and their families remained an integral and robust part of her life to the end.

A true pioneer for her time, Dyan found a way to flourish in both her career in the women’s fashion industry and as contributing member of her local community. Her passion for beauty, nature, and the finer things in life aligned perfectly with the art, culture, and verdant landscapes of the Hamptons, serving as the ideal backdrop for her life. Never mediocre, or average, or even on-trend, Dyan’s signature style was one of classic elegance and her flair for entertaining was legendary, as were the epically famous creations that came from her kitchen. She held herself to a high standard in everything she did – from cooking and managing her households to maintaining a daily fitness regimen right up until her passing.

Later in life, she traveled extensively with her beloved husband Herman from their home base in Manhattan NY, eventually settling in Vero Beach FL where they enjoyed many serene years by the sea with frequent visits from family and friends. Dyan’s deep love for her husband, her children, and other family members with whom she cultivated uniquely special yet different relationships, will serve as an eternal testament to her commitment to the highest good for those she loved and cared for.

Besides her husband Herman, Dyan is survived by her four sons – James DeCristofaro and his wife Amaryn of Alexandria VA, John DeCristofaro of Miami FL, Christopher DeCristofaro and his wife Margaret of Southampton NY, Joseph DeCristofaro and his wife Maria of Southampton NY – and her two daughters – Catherine deCristofaro of San Francisco CA and Susan Harris of Mountain Home AR – her six grandchildren – James, Jeff, Michael, Shannon, Cameron and Alexa – and three great-grandchildren – KC, Oakley, and Hudson, as well as her deceased brother Herbie’s wife Joyce Dobrozensky of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and her many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to their friends at Sea Watch for all of their love and support.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to VNA & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, Florida 32960.

As you all know Dyan was a one in a kind. I always enjoyed running into them going or coming from town or their walks on the beach and Dyan always welcomed a big hug. She will be missed! And I will especially miss seeing them walking to the crossover hand in hand. Such a great couple. Walt & Kathy Locke from Sea Watch

Herman and children of Dyan please know we are surely going to miss that smile and hearing her voice. She always called us the kids as we were the youngest of sea watch. I can see her waving at us through the kitchen window when we arrived from ohio. What an inspiration she was to us. Always positive and happy and yes ornery. Her an my husband were always teasing each other. She will be greatly missed. Know that she loved all of you. She talked about her children a lot! A great lady inside and out. My days of knowing Dyan go back to meeting her in the early 80’s and we walked the beaches of Water Mill (Eastern Long Island, NY) and then of course in Vero Beach at Sea Watch. Had so many great get togethers when I rented there at Sea Watch for 14 years. She was not only a good friend – but a wonderful, warm and caring person. I will never forget her.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
