Raymond (Ray) Leonard Bates passed away on January 13, 2024 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida.

He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 7, 1941 to Marjory and Raymond Bates, Sr.

He was a resident of Vero Beach, Florida before his passing.

He was married to Elizabeth M Granie on November 3, 1973.

He served in the US Navy as a Seaman (E3) for 3 1/2 years on the USS Hissmon and was honorably discharged in April, 1962. He moved back to Connersville, Indiana with his mother.

After moving to Florida, he worked many different jobs including as a superintendent for Charlie Frymer and Hard Drives Paving before retiring.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth, his daughter Nicole (Michael) Shaw, his granddaughters Payton and Caitlin Shaw, and his Sister Wanda Bates and several nieces.

He was predeceased by his Mother, Marjory and his father, Raymond Leonard Sr., and his brother, Donald.

We would like to thank family and friends and especially the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida for their caring and support for our family.

As a military veteran Ray will be laid to rest with full honors at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida on February 13, 2024 at 11 am.

My sister… my friend, words cannot express how sorry I am for the loss of your husband.
The emptiness you’re feeling now will slowly fade and your grief will turn into sweet memories you shared together.
