Virginia (Vicky) Cox Tulloch passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, at her home in Vero Beach, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Montclair, NJ, on January 19, 1939, she grew up and spent much of her adult life in Summit, NJ. For the past 28 years, she divided her time between her homes in Vero Beach, FL and Nantucket, MA.

Vicky was devoted to her family, especially as a loving wife to Peter, a deeply caring and attentive mother to Peter Jr. and Rob, a nurturing, playful, and fun-loving grandmother to Peter III, Elin, and Marley, and a warm-hearted big sister to her brother Charlie. The many who counted her as a treasured aunt, friend, or mentor can attest to the significant impact she had on their lives and to her fierce dedication and loyalty to those close to her.

After her early education at Kent Place School in Summit, she attended Wellesley College (Class of 1960) where she met Peter, a student at Harvard (Class of 1959). They married in 1961, and shared 62 years of loving companionship, family and adventures together. Vicky and Peter loved to travel, creating many of their fondest memories on trips around the world. They lived in Marblehead, MA; Geneva; and London before settling back down in Summit, NJ to raise their two sons.

Vicky was the true matriarch of her family. Her homes were warm and welcoming spots for family to share many memorable occasions. She hosted large family gatherings for decades, with relatives coming from near and far to join in her festive Thanksgiving, Christmas, and summer celebrations, and created cherished memories for those who had the fortune to attend. She was a gracious hostess, mixing treasured traditions of old and new with her signature humor and cheerful spirit.

An avid sportswoman, Vicky loved all kinds of sports, engaging both as a participant and as a fan. As a young married couple, she and Peter enjoyed sailing, spending many years racing and cruising around Marblehead, MA. They eventually discovered the foggy island of Nantucket, which immediately captured their hearts. Vicky enjoyed both competitive and social tennis with Peter, friends, and family, but it was in golf that she found her true passion. She took to the greens in her early forties, spent countless hours with friends on the course, and became the Women’s Club Champion at Sankaty Golf Club on Nantucket and the Shell Cup Champion at Grand Harbor in Vero Beach. As a fervent sports fan, she enthusiastically supported the New York Yankees, Giants, and Rangers, through the highs and lows of every season.

Volunteerism was her chosen career. By advocacy and by example she would raise its standard of professionalism to a level of excellence undreamed of by her mother’s generation. In Summit, she led with distinction, serving as President of the Junior League and the Summit Child Care Center; she was Executive Director of the United Way of Summit and New Providence; she served on the Community Health Care Committee for Overlook Hospital, the Adele Lynch Scholarship Fund Committee, and as a Trustee of the Convalescent Fund. Her civic contributions included roles as City of Summit census coordinator, Zoning Board member, advisor to the Mayor, prime mover for a new City Hall, and tireless advocate for the community use of Wilson School—an ever-active Citizen for Summit. In Vero Beach, she co-founded and served as President of Grand Harbor Audubon, was a generous contributor to and member of the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Foundation’s Eagle Society, was a member of Indian River Impact 100 and served on the inaugural Board of Governors for Grand Harbor Golf and Beach Club, also chairing numerous committees and presiding as President of the Grand Harbor Ladies 18 Hole Golf Association. On Nantucket, she was elected the first female President of the Siasconset Casino Association, helping to guide and build the thriving tennis and social programs still enjoyed by its members.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Peter; her sons, Peter Tulloch Jr. (Liza) and daughter Elin, and Rob Tulloch (Casey) and daughter Marley; her brother, Charlie Cox (Donna), and their children, Amy Cox Joiner and Sean Cox; her brother-in-law, Bruce Tulloch; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Sachs (and children Chris Cox and Liz Cox Barrett) and Heidi Stamas (and children Ali Cox and Sam Cox). She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosalie Cox Volkening; her father, Walter Cox; her brothers, Tony and Terry Cox; and her grandson, Peter Tulloch III.

A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
