Robert Allen Stover, “Bob” age 89, of Lincolnshire, IL and Sebastian, FL. passed away peacefully July 20, 2023.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth “Betty”(nee Muench) ; their children; Mark, Julianne (Spilotro), and John; their daughters-in-law Victoria Stover, Jennifer Stover, Berta Arias Del Pozo Stover and son-in-law Patrick A. Spilotro, Jr. Grandchildren; Catherine, Crystal, Ryan, Ashley, Brittney, Grace, Kate, Thomas, Lucy, Angela, Matthew, Morgan, Gabriel, Abby, Megan, Asa, Elena, and 12 + great grandchildren.
Preceeding Bob to Heaven are his sons, Paul C. and David R. Stover, and grandson, Paul Robert Stover.
Bob was born February 25, 1934 in Boonton, NJ, to Elizabeth (Elsie) and Kenneth R. Stover, Sr. and grew up in Madison, NJ. He graduated from Madison High School, and attended Bucknell University. Bob proudly served his country in the Army in the Korean War, as a communications expert. It was on base stateside at a USO dance, where he met Betty, his future wife, life partner, and “the mother of his 5 children”.
Bob thrived in the telecommunications industry, working for Stromberg Carlson in Rochester NY and Anixter Bros. in Skokie, IL. for 39 years. The ever consummate salesman & because he loved to sell,.. after his retirement, Bob worked for Coldwell Banker Real Estate in the North Suburbs of Chicago until 2015 when he and Betty moved to Florida full time.
The ultimate optimist, Bob “never had a bad day, if it was a bad day, he would make it good”. One of his many pearls of wisdom that will live on for many years. He loved to watch and play sports, an athlete in high school football and track, going to state & medaling for discus in 1951.
Bob had a big personality and bigger heart. His greatest passion was people. He would mentor, advise, encourage and motivate everyone he met. He was an amazing father and ever-present grandfather, watching them play sports and playing hours of chess games with his grandchildren. He was an avid reader & study of motivational books, loved his pool table, playing billiards and riding the waves in the Atlantic Ocean. Always a kid at heart, nothing kept Bob from enjoying life. Bob left an indelible mark on countless lives both personally and professionally. His energy, love of life and “pearls of wisdom” will inspire and live on for generations.
Bob was also preceded in passing by his parents, and brother Kenneth R. Stover, Jr.
A celebration of Life for Bob will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
