Wendell C. Bassett, 87, of Sebastian, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on February 17, 2020.
He was born June 7, 1932 in Dennis, Massachusetts and had been a resident of Sebastian, FL for 30 years, coming from Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Mr. Bassett was a decorated Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Following his time in the service, he raised his family in Plymouth where he owned Plymouth Auto Repair until his retirement.
He leaves his memories to be cherished by his children, daughter, Patricia (David) Gault of Sebastian, FL; son, Robert Bassett of Plymouth, MA; daughter, Terri Maki Dye of Boliver, Missouri; sister, Cynthia McGalliard of Harwich, MA; brother, Dick (Ellie) Bassett of Harwich, MA; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Leah Bassett in 1999 and brother, Franklin Bassett in 2018.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

we enjoyed having Thanksgiving dinner with him this past year. Enjoyed all the chit chat about growing up in the same area. He will be missed.

Megan and Terri, I have no words. Just calling to the Lord and his strength. Losing a father and grandfather is a heartbreak that only God can comfort. Love you both. Praying for you all

Sad to hear that Wendell has past. Since he retired and left Plymouth we only communicated through Christmas Card exchange. I always looked for the card from Wendell and Kitty. He was always a great shade tree mechanic and I have great memories of all his help and knowledge. I worked pumping gas on the night shift at the Gulf station where he worked his trade out of,the downtown area around the old Friendly’s and Callahan’s bar. He would be getting ready to leave as I was starting my shift, but he often stayed late to finish up customers cars. His clients were great people and many would often stop in just to
visit. Great stories and conversations! Good times.
Wendell would shut down for lunch every day and have lunch in his jeep in the woods, cutting dead wood for his stove and eating his sardines. We would often go clamming on the beach with families on off hours and go shooting on the power lines with friends. These things are gone too…..Gone but not to be forgotten, like Wendell….he was a good man… salt of the earth! My sincere condolences to his Family.
