Thomas A. Haar

April 17, 1949 ~ October 08, 2023

Thomas A. Haar, 74, of Vero Beach, Florida went to be with the Lord on October 8, 2023  at his home with his family nearby.  He was born April 17, 1949 in Sandusky, Ohio,  the son of Henry and Mae Haar, the 2nd of six children.  He graduated from St. Mary’s Central Catholic School, attended Davis Business College and Bowling Green State University.  At age 19 the most significant event of his life occurred at Sandusky Alliance Church when he made the decision to place  all his hope and faith in Jesus Christ as Savior.  This changed his life forever.  He then went on to attend Nyack College where he met his wife, Joan, and he received his BS in Bible and Theology.  He and Joan moved to Kentucky so he could attend Asbury Theological Seminary and then went to the University of Kentucky graduating with a MSW.  He worked at St Agatha’s and St. Dominic’s children’s homes in NY, and then in Kentucky worked with Joan at the Methodist Children’s Home  for four years.

The Haars moved to Vero Beach in 1977 and resided here for 46 years.  Thomas loved to read and study the Word and books for understanding and applying it.  Most of all, he loved to tell everyone about Jesus and urge them to receive Him as Savior.  He  was ordained by the Christian and Missionary Alliance.  He took on the challenge to plant a church and became the founding Pastor of Vero Beach Alliance Church. His words weekly to the church, “Will you share Jesus with someone this week?”

He retired as pastor after 39 years but continued teaching groups until his recent illness. He coached Little League, played Codgers Softball, went to the gym regularly, cheered for Cleveland and Kentucky, enjoyed  special times playing golf with his son, grandson and friends. He also loved to maintain and beautify the church grounds and his own yard at home.

He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Joan; son, Jordan Haar (Rebecca); daughter, Leah Coon (Chris); and grandchildren Hudson, Brooklyn, Luke, Amelia and Ethan as well as  his siblings, Bill Haar, Sally Haar Bienkowski, Sue Haar Zeman, David Haar (Darcy), and Cynthia Haar Petit (Rob); brother-in-law Dr. Stephen Marlett (Cathy); brother-in-law Dr. Keith Marlett (Nancy); Sister-in-law Anne O’Kelly (Steve); and many nieces and nephews.

We wish to thank Dr. Arthur Splendoria for his attentive and excellent care, Cleveland Clinic Hospital,  VNA Homecare and VNA Hospice.  We appreciate all the visits from Pastor Joe Litton and faithful prayers by the church family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the Vero Beach Alliance Church for the Missions Fund, Roof Replacement Fund, the Music Fund or the Youth Camp Fund.

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,

Nor have entered into the heart of man

The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

1 Corinthians 2:9

God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son.  1 John 5:11

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.    John 3:16

Please call Pastor Joe Litton 406-391-6010 for any questions about faith in Jesus.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
