Kemp Moore, Jr., 85, died Saturday, September 16, 2023 in the VNA Hospice facility in Vero Beach surrounded by his family. He was born October 15, 1937 in Dallas, Texas at St. Paul Hospital to Mary Ruth (Edrington) Moore and Kemp Moore, Sr.
Kemp graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1955 where he was an outstanding lineman in football and pitcher in baseball. He was also colonel of the core in ROTC and was very popular. He attended SMU in Dallas for one year on a baseball scholarship. After a year in the oil fields, he transferred to Austin College in Sherman, Texas. There he played football and baseball and went on to earn a degree in business. There he joined the Drake fraternity.
He was a superb salesman throughout his life. He spent most of his career in the food industry. He worked for over 40 years for the Anderson Clayton and Company in Sherman and Dallas, and later for the Kroger Company in Dallas and Cincinnati. It was there that he retired in 1998. Additionally, he sold insurance for a year while living in Dallas.
He met his soulmate, Constance Ann Sutton, “Connie,” in 1991 while visiting family in Pennsylvania and it was love at first sight. They were married on September 18, 1993. Together they have shared nearly 30 amazing years together. Together they lived in Cincinnati, the Atlanta area and Vero Beach. Travel was one of the many joys that they shared together. Some of their many destinations include Egypt, Rome, and Italy, amongst many, many others.
Growing up he was a member of the Greenland Hills Methodist Church in Dallas. After college and upon returning to the Dallas & Richardson area he joined the Church Hill Presbyterian Church and remained a member there until he moved to Cincinnati. He and Connie were members of Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church while living in the Atlanta area and later joined Christ By the Sea United Methodist Church upon moving to Vero Beach.

Kemp lived a rich and active life which he enjoyed every day. He was intelligent, witty, funny and was one of the most courteous and loving men. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Dear Aunt Connie,
We love uncle Kemp dearly and we’re sad to hear of his passing. We give praise to God for having blessed us all by knowing Kemp for all these years. His smile and hearty laugh was shared with all who knew him. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone. We cherish the times that you both have come to stay and visit. He always imparted wisdom to my girls and loved spending time with them. He had a warm and open quality that made you want to sit and talk with him. I loved hearing his stories about Austin college and growing up in Dallas. My heart is sad for your loss. I give God thanks that Kemp is no longer in pain and pray that he sits among the angels. All our love, Terri, Tom, Sofie and Tressa.

Although we have only known Kemp a few years, he left a great impression. His bigger than life smile and laugh will remain with us throughout our years. I’ve never met a more perfect gentleman. You will be missed!
