Born (October 31, 1934) in West Hartford, Connecticut to Swedish immigrants Carolyn Reynolds went to Hall High School in West Hartford, CT and then Bay Path Junior College in Longmeadow, MA. During this time she also served as the care giver to the late Press Blake’s children (Founder of Friendly Ice Cream). After college Carolyn worked briefly as a telephone operator in Storrs, CT before landing a job as a flight attendant for TWA airlines. It was working for TWA where she met the man of her dreams, pilot Ronald Reynolds, and they married soon after. They raised two children (Britt and Kristen) in Norwalk, CT for 13 years and then unfortunately divorced. Carolyn moved to New Canaan, CT with her children where she embarked on very successful career as a realtor. Among her many business accomplishments, Carolyn was listed in the ‘Who’s Who’ of Realtors in CT. and was known as the ‘Island Queen’ due to her success selling local island properties to celebrities. She soon opened her own real estate firm, Country Homes and Estates, and also worked for Previews selling exclusive high end homes. After many years, Carolyn sold her business but kept her license and continued referring clients through her extensive list of trusted relationships. She was always a positive force with a curious and sharp mind that believed deeply in the power of family as a way to overcome adversity and build personal resilience. Carolyn’s greatest love were her children and grandchildren. Always encouraging them to come over for a home cooked meal, to talk and laugh about life and their experiences. No detail was too small to spark her curiosity. She was the leader of the extended family, planning get togethers to keep family close, no matter the physical distance that time can bring. She was also an avid card and board game player- nothing delighted her more than engaging in games of intellectual challenge with her grandchildren as a creative way of helping them to learn and think independently. Carolyn loved her later years living in San Francisco, CA, New Canaan, CT and most recently Vero Beach, FL where she fell in love with the new friends she made at her senior living home, and continued to engage in lively discussions, regular get-togethers and much laughter, to the very end. Carolyn is predeceased by her beloved daughter Kristen Reynolds Ruth and her loving brother Sven Swanson. She leaves her daughter Britt Reynolds Bair (husband Michael Bair), her grandchildren Alexandra and Jack Bair, Britt and Meg Gardella, Charlie Ruth and her nephew and niece Richard Swanson and Susan Swanson Decker.
