Jay Herbert Fowler

October 08, 1939 ~ July 22, 2023

Jay Herbert Fowler, 83, of Vero Beach, FL went to Heaven on July 22, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.
Jay was born in Boston, Mass October 8, 1939, the second of three sons born to Bryant and Louise Fowler. He attended public schools in Arlington, Mass and graduated from Arlington High School in 1958. After high school Jay followed his older brother Jim into the US Navy. At one time all three brothers were serving in the US Navy. Jay served six years in the Navy as a medical corpsman. He was on standby duty in Syria, Lebanon, and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He took shore leave in the Mediterranean to run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. His last tour was at Camp LeJeune, NC.
After the Navy, Jay graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology as a medical technician. He worked at Boston City Hospital for fifteen years as a laboratory technician. He also worked for Consolidated Services Corporation for over thirty years. After retiring to Sea he worked for Walmart for seven years and then Winn Dixie for another seven years.
Jay was active in his Nazarene Churches in Quincy, Hingham, and South Weymouth, Mass. He served as an usher, board member, church treasurer, and in nursing home ministries. He was also a team member on several mission trips to South Africa and Nicaragua. Jay loved people and always found a way to connect even if they spoke a different language.
Jay and Judie were married in 1968 and lived in Quincy, Mass before moving to Hull, Mass in 1976. They spent 25 years in Hull where they were foster parents. Jay loved living on the water where he was able to swim and sail. They retired to Vero Beach in 2001.

So glad Larry and I got to visit just shortly before he went to heaven. Loved to tease about his love of mashed potatoes. Our prayers continue for Judie, Veronica and family. He will be greatly missed.

I remember many happy holiday meals at Aunt Judie and Uncle Jays house when I was small kid. He always seemed to have a smile on his face in my memories. Sending lots of love your way Aunt Judie.

So blessed to have known Jay, Judy and Veronica and to have served with them at So. Weymouth Nazarene Church. We enjoyed sharing in the nursing home ministry and Work and Witness team in Lesotho, Africa. Well done, God’s faithful servant.

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
